On Sunday, celebrated radio presenter Kanze Dena made a sensational exit from Royal Media Services as she headed for her new job as the deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head, PSCU. It was her last TV show after 15 years of a TV career that started at KBC and things turned emotional as she looked back at her ascent with fans and colleagues bidding her bye bye. The cheerful and charming media personality takes her new role in the communication teams focusing on the President’s brand positioning, media relations and messaging in regard to the delivery of the Big Four agenda, a lucrative career move that has many talking. Hours after Kanze officially left her Citizen TV slot, another showbiz personality was answering a rare call from State House. Ruth Mueni, a radio host who has been based in Nakuru where she has also been working closely with the Nakuru County government received an offer of appointment to the house on the hill. “I am pleased to convey the decision of the Public Service Commission of Kenya that you are offered appointment in the grade of Events and Branding Officer 1…for a period of three years in the State House (Presidential Strategic Communication Unit) during the tenure of H E the President with effect from the date you assume duties of the office,” the letter from State House read in part. And barely a week ago, through a Kenya Gazette, celebrated comedian and TV personality Vincent Mwasia Mutua aka Chipukeezy got an appointment as a board member of the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada), a docket under Fred Matiang’i’s Interior and Co-ordination of National Government docket. Chipukeezy [Photo: Courtesy] “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (1) of the National Authority of the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse Act, the Cabinet Secretary, Interior and Co-ordination of National Government appoints Vincent Mwasia Mutua to the members of the National Authority for the Campaign against Alcohol and Drug Abuse Board,” the Gazette notice read in part. Since that appointment last week, Chipukeezy has been walking in his new status with confidence. The three new youthful faces in dockets around the ruling power are just a few of the appointments that have seen President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government factor in new blood into positions that were previously a reserve for the older generation. Not that the appointments have gone without question, the placements have drawn critics into debate as to whether the new crop will fit into the seemingly big shoes. Here are some of the online comments that followed the announcement. “Chipukeezy who has zero talent, no tangible socio-economic achievements, no academic credentials to his name, no history of fighting drugs, has been appointed to sit in the NACADA board,” wrote Eric (@amerix). Jaguar with President Uhuru Kenyatta [Photo: Courtesy] “My mediocre questions what criteria do they always use in the selection of people in such calibre or they think he is influential (sic) and can reach many people or youths to what extent do they want to win the hurt (sic) of the youths and what is the promotive factors to be considered,” posed Josiah Mlai (@OngaiJosiah). “Well, if Jaguar was there, Chipukizzy can be there too. Githeriman was the preferred choice but is unwell. Checked into rehab a few days ago,” Abu Daud (@RKI2011) alluded to sarcastically. “At least Chipu is a youth kushinda recycling old wazee so if he is legit enough aache ile show yake ya Ebru another youth achukue tusonge mbele,” wrote Hum Babah (@humbaba95). “Congratulations my brother. Excellent. As youth, we are being represented. The present and future of the nation,” responded Wenceslau Gathiani (@WGathiani) as one Mathias Nabutola echoed: “Congratulations being a comedian doesn’t mean you can’t work elsewhere. After all the so-called best-suited have swindled our coffers dry.” Chipukeezy takes a position another showbiz personality, Jaguar, held before he moved into politics. Jaguar, who was among the first people to congratulate Chipukeezy had a rough time at Nacada as he seemed to be at loggerheads with some of the top officials at the board. Right from the onset, Jaguar claimed that the State corporation had a cartel that was corrupt as he alleged a section of the board was involved in a fraud involving Sh99 million. And within no time, he clashed openly with the then Nacada board chairman John Mututho before calling a press conference where he announced his resignation. He started his Jaguar Foundation, through which he continued to advocate against drug abuse as he helped those affected into rehabilitation, further offering them job opportunities. Kanze and Mueni are the latest lots of young people who have their foot inside State House since media personality Dennis Itumbi and Big Ted were awarded plum jobs during President Uhuru’s first term. As Itumbi earned himself the State House Digital Director's position to become one of the biggest mouthpieces for the Jubilee government, Big Ted landed the position of the Deputy Director in charge of State Branding and Events, a job he was well versed with as the CEO of giant entertainment company, The Main Events Company. That shows the government’s willingness to involve the young people in dockets they can do well. I must congratulate those who have been appointed,” said showbiz icon Nameless. Big Ted [Photo: Courtesy] “I really don’t see what the big fuss is all about with the critics who are questioning the ability of the likes of Chipukeezy to perform in their new appointments. I mean, these are guys who have had an influence on the lives young people for years and Chipukeezy’s appointment as a board member fits well as what Nacada does largely touch on the lives of young people. I am sure he will deliver. Let us give him time and support,” said singer Bahati. “I just pray that the young appointees do not start playing politics. If they perform well, they will be buying trust and opening doors for more young people to be trusted in places of authority. Mine is to wish them well,” he added.
Sanjoy Dutta posed for photos moments before the snake struck A forest ranger posing for a photo with a 30ft python he had just rescued was nearly killed by the serpent's crushing force. As Sanjoy Dutta posed for the camera with the snake draped across his shoulder, it began tightening its grip, attempting to strangle him in front of a horrified crowd. The snake had minutes earlier been saved by the ranger and his team from a forest in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India. Sanjoy began to panic as the python's grip tightened, threatening to cut off circulation to his head. The crowd quickly turned from cheering to screaming as the reptile's grip tightened Brief video footage shows the moment the seemingly calm animal turns, wrapping its body around the ranger. The crowd starts screaming in horror, fearing for the man's life. He can be seen attempting to loosen the snake's grip while another rescuer pulls at the reptile's tail. But luckily, Sanjoy escaped unharmed and appeared undeterred by his brush with death, saying "leave it nothing will happen" as he walks away. Later, the python was released into the forest. Ravi Kant Sinha, chief wildlife warden of the state, slammed the officer. He said: "It is not justified. If forest officers do such tricks, who will stop the common people from following them?” The forest ranger desperately fought the animal off State Forest Minister Binayakrishna Barman added: "This officer is very enthusiastic. Care should be taken during rescues or he will invite danger." But eyewitness Manoj Burman said he was happy the snake was removed from the area. "This was a big snake which was a threat to small children in the nearby school,' he said. In a scene likened to a horror movie, a 54-year-old woman was eaten alive by a giant python near her home in Southeast Sulawesi last week. Her lifeless body was later cut from the beast after a search party discovered the huge snake barely able to move with a huge bulge in its belly.

Emily Odhiambo, Margaret Oduor, Vivian Awuor and Ian Otieno in court Three women and their brother have landed in trouble for allegedly attacking their relative after she reportedly confessed that her father was responsible for her pregnancy. Embarrassed that the relative (name withheld) had brought shame to the extended family, Emily Odhiambo, Margaret Oduor, Vivian Awuor and Ian Otieno are reported to have attacked her to teach her a lesson. According to police records, the four administered the beatings as punishment to the victim scandalising her father and the family by exposing the abomination, which they claimed should have been solved internally without exposing the family to ridicule and shame. Reportedly, it all started while the teen was doing laundry outside her house, days after she went public about the incestuous relationship she had allegedly been having with her father. All of a sudden she got ambushed and the kicks, slaps and blows began raining upon her, even as she begged for forgiveness. Following the scuffle, the complainant’s mother arrived at the scene and called her husband to rescue the young lady. On his arrival, he found the hostile assailants, chanting abuses while beating and roughing up the complainant. His efforts to rescue her got him also physically attacked and insulted. Neighbours intervened, leading to the arrest of the four. Upon being arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts, they denied the assault charges and were released on a cash bail of Sh10,000 each, pending the hearing of the matter on 6th September.
Kambua [Photo: Courtesy] Gospel songstress Kambua has revealed how she was once left in tears after a bad episode of body shaming from her ex-boyfriend. According to the post by Kambua on her YouTube channel, the man she met when she was fresh out of high school almost broke her down. The Kubamba TV show host said that most of the times when she was with him, she was “balancing tears, feeling humiliated, hungry and angry.” “Many years ago, I was dating this guy and I was living life on the chubbiest side of life. I was a lot heavier than I am basically. I was fresh from high school, I had put on a lot of weight in high school and I met this guy. We liked each other so we started dating but this guy had a serious issue with my weight and he was constantly showing me different exercises, he had a lot of advice to give me,’’ shared Kambua. Not only did he suggest different work out regimes, but he would watch everything she ateand questioned her decisions. ‘’There was a time he said something like, ‘You finished a whole chapo by yourself? A whole chapo?”She pointed out That was strike two and a half. Strike three would come when the couple went to a fast food restaurant for a late lunch. The then boyfriend ordered two pieces of chicken and fries for them to share. “So please keep in mind that I’m already conscious about my weight, what I eat around this guy because of what he said about the chapo. We start eating, I’m eating very slowly nibbling on my chicken taking a fry here and there, then halfway through the meal, he goes like ‘I don’t think you should eat any more fries,” she added. And what did he do next? He took the pieces of fries and chicken she was eating. “He takes the rest of the pack and continued to eat. So I just swallowed a kiwaru, literally. Then as I’m eating my chicken, he goes like, are you going to finish that Kay? And I handed my chicken over to him. Everything inside me, it was like a mixture of balancing my tears, feeling humiliated, hungry and angry,’’ the singer divulged. Unable to put up with his humiliation, she made an excuse to leave early. “Because we were meant to hang out that afternoon, I was so furious. I told him I had somewhere else to be so let’s hook up whenever,’’ The ‘’place’’ she was meant to be turned out to be the nearest bakery where she stuffed herself with cake. ‘’I wanted to stuff that emotion down, stuffing myself with cake, stuffing the anger, the humiliation. Everything. I ate it all in one sitting.’’ She said. By this time, she was done with the relationship and learnt a valuable lesson. ‘’The relationship obviously did not last. What I learnt from it is, don’t be with someone who body shames you. Be with someone who celebrates who you are in every season of your life. And if you have a weakness or you are struggling with something then they are able to help you work through that struggle but not putting you down because of it. I look back now, and I can laugh about it but I really hope you can hear what I’m saying,’’ noted Kambua.
The case is to be heard again [ Photo: Courtesy] Outgoing Kakamega Resident Judge, Ruth Sitati has ordered fresh trial for a bishop who was sentenced to ten years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to rape. Andrew Atibo Makokha was convicted after he pleaded guilty to raping a member of his church at Masingo Estate, Kakamega East District, in the name of exorcising demons from her. In an alternative charge, Atibo was found guilty of committing an indecent act of inappropriately touching the genitalia of a fellow adult without her consent. He was aggrieved by the sentence and appealed the decision by Senior Resident Magistrate Benson Khapoya. According to the prosecution, the complainant had informed her mother that she had left for prayers and spiritual at the church and found the accused at the church. Atibo, who serves at the church, is said to have asked her to undress so that he could chase bad omens and demons that had possessed her. While resisting, the court heard, the man of God forcefully undressed her whilst praying and proceeded to have his way with her. During appeal, Atibo told the court that the trial magistrate never warned him of the impending consequences and sentence in the event that he was found culpable of the disgraceful offence. Through his lawyer, he said the magistrate at the lower court erred in law and fact by holding plea of guilty as unequivocal without first inquiring as to his state of mind. The appellate judge, while quashing the sentence, noted that such a plea of guilty must be taken cautiously and the records must show that the accused understood what he was admitting to. “The offence is not capital. It is important for the trial court to make it clear to the accused person what sentence is likely to get on pleading guilty to the offence,” said Justice Sitati. The judge further noted that in his mitigation, the appellant had told the trial court magistrate that the complainant was his friend and they occasionally had intercourse. “In my considered view, what the appellant stated in his mitigation did not support a plea of guilty. At this point, the trial court should have questioned the appellant whether he wanted to change his plea. The appellant’s statement negated the allegation that he raped the complainant without her consent. The plea of guilty in this case cannot therefore stand,” the Judge said. Justice Sitati ordered: “I allow the appeal, quash the conviction and set aside the sentence. The case is remitted for fresh trial before the Chief Magistrate.”
Risper Faith with her husband [Photo: Courtesy] If you have been a keen observer, you will notice that Risper Faith is wearing the wife title with pride so much so that she has deleted all her ‘ratchet’ photos on social media. After getting engaged early last year to Brian Muiruri on live TV, the two love birds exchanged vows at an exclusive invite only wedding at the Radisson Blu hotel on February 3rd 2018. This came despite cheating allegations days before their wedding and having paid Sh2 million for her bride price, there was no turning back for the two. Well, it has now emerged that the former socialite may soon be a mother. The former Nairobi Diaries actress started hinting from late last year when she was posting photos of pregnant women with one which she specifically captioned, ‘almost there.’ Looks like she could be ‘there.’ During one of her live Instagram stories someone at the background was heard saying, ‘‘at least you’re looking good as usual, my dream lady.’’ To which she responded, ‘’I’m so married and so pregnant.’’ Risper together with her boo are living large after they recently acquired a new Mercedes Benz. Congratulations to the soon to be parents. |
